Oasis

The power of music is a funny thing and never ceases to amaze me - when Oasis announced their comeback back tour and all the hype surrounding it with tickets prices etc I was like ‘ oh ok that’s interesting ‘ …. but didn’t for one second consider trying to get a ticket.

I came back from New Zealand in 1995 and Oasis were at their height , having been abroad for 2 years I hadn’t heard of the band but I bought their album ‘ What’s the story morning glory ‘ and listened to it on repeat …my boyfriend lived in Lincoln at the time so many miles driving up the motorways with the brother’s tunes for musical companionship.

Jump to 30 years later and I can speak from experience as a gigging musician who plays ALL SORTS of music those Oasis songs are still as relevant now as they were then …. I d say almost 80% of gigs I do I ll get asked for an Oasis track ( yes even the `jazz gigs lol 🤣 ) ….seriously tho ‘ Dont look back in anger ‘ is such a beautifully crafted song its a pleasure to sing it …..

Having seen the footage of the boys last night I wish I d been there - it looked AMAZING …… and you could see from the audience how it was long overdue …… Maybe this will bring some long overdue peace to the brothers maybe not but no matter the state of their relationship their music has endured .

I saw Noel at Glastonbury in 2023 with his High Flying Birds on the pyramid stage and at one point he announced “ I know you lot just wanna hear THOSE OTHER SONGS “ and when he did finally play the Oasis tunes EVERYONE on that field knew every word …… and it was clearly the same last night ….as a songwriter having 70,000 people singing your songs back to you ….its something I could only dream about …… love or hate them they ve achieved what many of us fellow musicians will never experience .
